Donald E. Breymeyer

Donald “Donnie” E. Breymeyer, 87, of rural Wamego, Kansas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.

Donnie was born on February 1, 1925 on the family farm near Belvue, Kansas. He was the son of Eduard G. and Lena (Solter) Breymeyer.

He attended schools near Belvue. Donnie enlisted into the United States Army where he served before returning home to Wamego where he worked as a welder and rancher until his retirement.

On August 29, 1954, Donnie married Maggie Jean Rickstrew. She preceded him in death in 2000. He later married Sally Pena, on June 20, 2002. She survives of the home. 

Donnie was the owner of Don’s Welding in Wamego, Kansas. He was  a member of the Arab Shrine Temple of Topeka, the American Legion Post #172, I.O.O.F. Lodge #80 of Wamego for over 60 years and was also a volunteer fireman for many years.

He enjoyed doing yard work with his wife Sally, raising cattle, sightseeing, traveling and visiting family. 

Donnie is also survived by one brother: Art Wille; one sister: Merna Raine; two stepdaughters: Laurie Stevens and husband Troy of St. George, Utah and Karen Stevens and husband Tony of Las Vegas, Nevada; three stepsons: Clinton Maxfield and wife Jaylene of Oakland Township, Michigan, Jason Maxfield and wife Dannielle of McFarland, Kansas and Clayton Maxfield and wife Destinee of Las Vegas, Nevada; 12 stepgrandchildren: Erika and Sabrina Stevens, Shelbie, Aubrie and Cameron Maxfield, Melissa, Natalie, Lindsey and Nicolas Stevens, Merrill Maxfield and Sage and Willow Maxfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Ona.

 A funeral service for Donnie will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. Burial will follow with military honors at the Wamego City Cemetery.

Donnie will lie in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m. Monday, where a visitation will follow from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Pottawatomie County Caring Hearts Humane Society or the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547. Online condolences may be left at www.stewartfuneralhomes.com.
