Sherman Keith Godlove, 85, of Westmoreland, Kan. died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at his home. He was a life-long resident of the area.
Keith was born January 20, 1927, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Sherman and Cheryl Seymour Godlove. He attended local schools and in 1945 he graduated from Westmoreland Rural High School. Keith served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a typist at the Pentagon.
Keith was a heavy equipment operator for the Kansas Department of Transportation. For many years he drove a grader and mixed asphalt mat. After his retirement he worked around the farm. Prior to his working for the state, he spent four years at Clinton L. Scott Lumber in Topeka. He was a member of Westmoreland Masonic Lodge #257. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. Keith was also a member of Westmoreland American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Keith is survived by his two sisters, Jo Plummer of Westmoreland and Anne Reves of Blaine; seven nieces and nephews, Steve Campbell, Jan Schaffer, Joy Krouse, Jill Tanner, Jack Plummer, Rob Reves and Sarah Plummer. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Pat Campbell.
Graveside services with Military and Masonic honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Westmoreland City Cemetery. Reverend Jol Klein will be officiating. Mr. Godlove will lie-in-state starting at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to the Westmoreland Masonic Lodge #257 or the Westmoreland American Legion, and those may be sent in care of the mortuary.
