Twila Fay Zachgo, 60, from Tipton, Kan. went to her rest Sunday, April, 22 after a short battle with cancer. She was born to Woodrow and Mildred Ulin in Beloit, Kan. on Oct. 8, 1951. She grew up on a farm near Hunter, Kan. with her parents, and her brother, Larry.
She attended elementary school in Hunter and one year at Hunter High School before graduating from Sylvan Unified High School. It was during high school that she met her future husband, Dennis Zachgo. Twila attended Fort Hays State University and studied education for a couple of years before marrying Dennis on Aug. 7, 1971.
The couple resided in Hays before moving to Tipton in 1973. Twila worked as a school aide at Tipton Elementary School and also as a para-educator for the Glen Elder Elementary school. She later returned to Fort Hays State and graduated with her degree in education in 1992. She began teaching at Osborne Elementary School shortly after graduation and taught there until she became too ill to continue.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis in 2003. She is survived by her two sons, Brian (Tara) Zachgo, Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Kelly (Laura) Zachgo, Wamego; a daughter, Amber (Scott) Krier, Beloit.; eight grandchildren; a brother, Larry, of Wichita; and her mother, Mildred Simmelink, Osborne, Kan.
Funeral services were held, Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Grace Chapel United Methodist Church in Hunter, Kan. with Pastor Emily Meckley officiating.
Memorial funds have been established to the Twila Zachgo Memorial Teaching Fund, the church, and to the American Cancer Society. Domoney Funeral Home, 817 Morgan Avenue, Downs, Kan. was in charge of arrangements.
