Rock Creek High School will present its fall play on Saturday, November 10th. This year the students and director decided to try something different. “We have some students who really like to act, and who really like to sing, so we decided to do a regular play with some songs thrown in,” said Director Keith Miller. The play, Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw, was later transformed into the musical My Fair Lady. Sara Nider will play the part of Eliza Doolittle and Jackson Meyer will portray the irritable Henry Higgins. “The two have done duets in forensics for a couple of years, and they have a really good chemistry between them. The work really well together” said Miller. Other parts include Chance Maginness as Alfred Doolittle, William Henry as Colonel Pickering, Alexis McCormick as Henry’s mother, Kimmy Woodworth as the maid, Ashton Umscheid, Alexis Engelken and Shane Adams as the Hill family. Bystanders include Trey Basa, Sarah Marek, Alexis Wilson, Jacob Miller, Justin Ward, and Molly Pyle.
A spaghetti dinner will be offered beforehand, or people can simply come and see the show. As an added twist, the actors and actresses will be serving the meal in full costume and in character. “We did this last year, and it was really fun. The audience liked it because they got to know the characters before the show even started. The kids liked it because they could improv. It was a really neat experience,” said Miller.
Ticket prices for the meal and the show are $12 for adults, $9 for kids. For just the show the tickets are $5 and $3. For meal reservations, contact Mr. Miller at 785.456.5891 or email at millerk@rockcreekschools.org. You do not need to pay in advance, just pay at the door. The meal starts at 6 pm, and the show starts at 7 pm.
