Lois M. Schoemann

Lois M. Schoemann, 86, Topeka, formerly of St. Marys, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born January 29, 1926, the daughter of the late George F. and Genevieve R. Weishaar Dillon.  She married Henry W. Schoemann on June 19, 1948 at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Hope, Kansas.

Lois lived on a small farm in the Sandy Hook Community 3 ½ miles SE of St. Marys for 55 years moving to Topeka in 2002.  She had lived the past several years at Presbyterian Manor and was extremely grateful for the loving care she received there.

Mrs. Schoemann spent many years in the teaching profession, and also as a para professional.  She had also been a bus driver.  Lois sold Avon and worked for McCall’s Pattern Company over the years. She had been a 4-H Leader and loved working with children and teaching was her passion. She was a past member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys where she was a Religious Education Teacher.  Lois was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka. 

Lois was preceded on death by her husband Henry on January 1, 1999 after 50 wonderful years of marriage. Mrs. Schoemann was also preceded in death by three infant children and a sister Ruth Dillon.

Survivors include her six children, Anna Harvey, Littleton, CO, Jim (Dolores) Schoemann, El Paso, TX, Marcy (John) O’Shea, Topeka, Mary Schoemann, Manhattan, Jane Harris, Gardner and Barbara (Alan) Howarter, Wichita; two sisters, Dorothy Riffel, Salina, and Jane Schwinn, Topeka; a brother, Ralph (Margaret) Dillon, Hope; 17 grandchildren , 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian was Monday, June 4, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys.  Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.
