Irene Rose Gehrt
WESTMORELAND- Irene Rose Gehrt, 82, of Westmoreland, Kansas passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Westy Community Care Home.
Irene was born April 18, 1930 in Morganville, Kansas the daughter of Karl and Rose (Fahrein) Fox. She attended schools in Morganville graduating from Morganville High School in 1948. After high school Irene began working for Southwestern Bell in Topeka, Kansas for five years before becoming a housewife. She later went to work for the housing department at Kansas State University where she worked for several years before retiring in 1994.
Irene really enjoyed being a room mother, bringing treats and being involved in her kids activities. She loved doing arts and crafts and was a huge animal lover. Irene was also a member of the First Lutheran Church of Manhattan, Kansas.
Irene is survived by her two daughters: Debbie Garcia and husband Bob and Sandra Schwinn and husband Scott all of Westmoreland, Kansas; two sons: Scott Gehrt and wife Mendy of Westmoreland, Kansas and Mark Gehrt and wife Sara of Desoto, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers: Ted and Ed and her three sisters: Heddy, Margaret and Helen.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Stewart Funeral Chapel in Westmoreland, Kansas. Graveside services will follow at the Westmoreland Cemetery.
