Spring is coming and 4-H is picking up steam. It is the time to get involved in some of your favorite projects in Pottawatomie county.
The cat project is one many 4-Hrs can take part in. There are four 4-H cat meetings scheduled, plus a cat show. Dr. Deanna Fairbanks will host the first meeting, March 30th at the Animal Health Clinic at 10:00, in Onaga. She will speak about keeping a cat healthy and will give shots to those who bring their cats. She will answer any questions on cats.
The second meeting will be the Cat Show, April 27th at 1:00, at Redbud Plaza in Onaga. Redbud Plaza is the assisted living part of the Onaga Hospital Complex.
Every cat must bring proof of rabies and distemper shots to attend. There are eight divisions and first place trophies with cat medallions on top to the winner of each division. The cats are judged as Household Pets, as if in a Cat Fancy Cat show. The 4-Hrs, will give a 2 minute project talk about their cats and will be awarded prizes for their project talks.
This year a beautiful cat bed, donated by Miki Gomez, who has judged previous cat shows, will be given to each 4-Hr, that brings a cat to compete in the cat show.
There is also a “Best Decorated Cat Cage” contest, for 4-Hrs to show their creativity.
May 20th, will meet to make 3 kinds of cat toys and cat shirts.
June 18th, will meet to make cat furniture.
July 13th to possibly tour the Cat Shelter in Manhattan.
Contact the county extension office and get enrolled.
See you there.
